The State Duma Committee on Energy reported “Izvestia”that they are ready to consider the possibility of appealing to the Russian government with an initiative to return the ban on gasoline exports. The appeal will be sent in the event of a “serious increase in fuel prices.”
“Unfortunately, it is true that prices began to rise, and the measures taken to curb them turned out to be temporary. The main reason is the renewed export of petroleum products abroad. It is more profitable for oil and gas companies to sell fuel there than inside Russia. Therefore, we record growth. If it is very serious, then State Duma deputies will again return to raising the issue of stopping exports,” Igor Ananskikh, first deputy chairman of the Duma Committee on Energy, deputy from A Just Russia – For Truth, told the publication.
According to Izvestia, during the week from November 21 to November 27, 2023, retail diesel prices increased in 58 regions of Russia. The highest jump was recorded in the Magadan region – by 4.79 rubles per liter, the Trans-Baikal Territory – by 1.12 rubles, the Amur region – by 98 kopecks, the Primorsky Territory – by 95 kopecks, Kamchatka – by 79 kopecks, Khakassia – by 70 kopecks, Irkutsk region – by 60 kopecks, Khabarovsk Territory – by 49 kopecks.
On September 21, the Russian government introduced a ban on the export of gasoline and diesel fuel. The purpose of the embargo was to saturate the domestic market with fuel and reduce prices, which reached a new maximum in September. October 6 government weakened embargo, allowing the pipeline export of diesel fuel, otherwise the refinery would be threatened with overstocking, and subsequently a decrease in refining. November 22 Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation reportedthat the government also lifted the ban on the export of summer diesel fuel “due to the saturation of the domestic market.”
