Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, criticized President Joe Biden for suspending the conclusion of new contracts for the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG). In his opinion, this will strengthen Russia and make Europe dependent on Moscow.
“President Biden’s decision to halt construction of new natural gas export terminals is outrageous. By kneeling before climate activists, the President is empowering Russia, weakening US energy security, and deepening Europe’s dependence on dirty Russian exports,” Mr Johnson wrote on social media X.
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign also criticized Mr Biden’s decision. In his opinion, the White House has “succumbed to the radical demands of eco-extremists in its administration” and is undermining the economic and national security of the United States.
Joe Biden said the day before, January 26, that the United States would suspend the process of approving new LNG export contracts due to the situation with climate change. White House National Climate Adviser Ali Zaidi said that despite this decision, the United States will remain a reliable partner in the issue of LNG supplies to Europe.
