On April 24, at the Lenkom Theater of Mark Zakharov, passers-by could see an unusual vehicle. A GAZ-66 motor vehicle, shining in the April sun with oil and fresh paint, stood at the walls of the theatre.
At one o’clock in the afternoon, journalists began to flock to the army “workhorse”: soon the director of “Lenkom” Mark Varshaver, the son of the cult Soviet actor Yevgeny Leonov, actor and TV presenter Andrei Leonov and representatives of patriotic organizations appeared here.
It turned out that this was a personal car that belonged to Leonov Jr. After the restoration, he handed it over to the sanitary and medical services of the Russian army.
For the steering wheel on the way to Donetsk, where the handover ceremony will take place, Andrey Evgenievich intends to sit down himself. “We will change, of course,” he admitted. “The main thing is that the car is needed, maybe it will even save someone’s life.”
The car left for Donbass not empty – it will be filled with bandages, tourniquets and everything necessary to help the wounded. “It was my classmate who helped and caring people,” Leonov said, commenting on the collection of medical supplies. “You see, this car is completely peaceful, you can’t put a machine gun on the roof,” the actor also said.
“Andrei is a man with a very big heart,” Mark Varshaver commented on the ceremony without hiding his emotions. But the most touching moment was a few seconds when, at the request of photojournalists, Andrey Leonov opened the doors to the cockpit – they say, everything is in order there. Closing it, he patted the door, as one slaps an old comrade on the shoulder, with the words: “Good luck.”
This scene showed how long the actor did not part with this car, which is not often seen in civilian life. Considering that the GAZ-66 was produced in 1980 and has been kept in perfect condition all these years, it was not easy for a connoisseur of rare vehicles to part with it.
