Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) received information about the evacuation of residents of Energodar, where employees of the Zaporozhye NPP live. The organization’s CEO Rafael Grossi believes that the situation is becoming more and more unpredictable.

“The general situation in the ZNPP area is becoming more and more unpredictable and potentially dangerous. I am extremely concerned about the very real threats to nuclear safety that the plant is facing. We must act now to avert the threat of a serious nuclear accident,” Grossi said in a comment on website IAEA.

Mr. Grossi said the agency was evaluating the evacuation situation for “possible impact on nuclear safety.” According to him, IAEA experts have not been able to visit Energodar in recent days.

Acting head of the Zaporozhye region Evgeny Balitsky announced on the evacuation of residents of 18 settlements deep into the region on May 5. We are talking about about 70 thousand people. The list includes Energodar, where the Zaporozhye NPP is located. The head of the region expects Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the near future. Renat Karchaa, Advisor to the General Director of the Rosenergoatom Concern, and Vladimir Rogov, Member of the Chief Council of the Regional Administration reportedthat the evacuation of ZNPP employees is not yet planned.
