Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the share of Russian sparkling wine in stores reached 68%, and still wine – 52%. According to him, these results were achieved, among other things, thanks to the participation of the authorities in promoting the product on the market.
Viktor Evtukhov cited as an example the “Russian Wine Days” campaign, which is held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture. He notes that the campaign not only helped increase sales, but also led to higher recognition of domestic wine.
From August 2023, the government increased the duty on the import of wine from unfriendly countries from 12.5% to 20%. According to Kommersant, in August the import of wine has already decreased by 30% year-on-year and month-on-month. Russian winemakers expect that this measure will improve competition with cheap foreign wine. At the same time, importers believe that an increase in duties threatens to increase prices and switch consumers to other types of alcohol.
