The share of empty brokerage individual investment accounts (IIA) at the end of 2023 was 71%. Another 6% of accounts are trial accounts, since the balance on the IIS did not exceed 10 thousand rubles, they reported press service Central Bank of Russia.

The value of assets on IIS at the end of 2023 amounted to 543 billion rubles, which is 22% more than last year’s figure. According to the regulator, the increase in value is due to a positive revaluation of Russian assets. “The volume of portfolios has almost reached the level of the end of 2021 – 551 billion rubles,” the Central Bank said.

The average size of a brokerage IIS at the end of 2023, excluding trial accounts, was about 682 thousand rubles. In 2023, IIS received 33 billion rubles, which is 62.5% less than in 2022. Then Russians replenished their IIS by 88 billion rubles. The regulator said that this behavior of investors speaks “of their still cautious attitude towards the third type of IIS, which is new to them.”

At the same time, the Central Bank recorded a massive outflow of capital from trust management accounts. In 2023, it reached 25 billion rubles. This is 28% more than in 2022, when 18 billion rubles were withdrawn. In general, in 2023, Russians began to open new accounts more often and close old ones less often.
