The secrets of Mark Zakharov will open a large-scale exhibition project

A marathon dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Master started in Moscow

The bow of the ship, the script of the cult film and other rarities will be seen by the public on Mark Zakharov’s birthday – on October 13, the great director turns 90. On this occasion, a large-scale exhibition project “Mark Zakharov. The Master’s Formula.”

The exhibition will feature materials from the personal archive of the director’s daughter, Alexandra Zakharova, as well as from the archives of the Satire Theater, the Moscow Lenkom Theater, the Mosfilm film concern, and the Master’s friends and associates.

ROSIZO, the Bakhrushin Museum and GITIS, where the future director of Juno and Avos studied, will present unique items from their collections.

“The name of Mark Zakharov is forever inscribed in the Russian history of theater and cinema; without his work it is impossible to imagine a picture of Russian art of the twentieth century,” says ROSIZO general director Olga Galaktionova, for whom this project is largely personal – she began her journey at Lenkom with Zakharov. “The films “That Same Munchausen”, “The Twelve Chairs”, “Formula of Love”, “Kill the Dragon” and other films, the plays “Juno and Avos”, “Funeral Prayer”, “The Marriage of Figaro” are part of the cultural code of any of our compatriots” .

Zakharov the schoolboy, Zakharov the student, artist of the provincial theater, director of performances at the Satire Theater, which was closed the next day. Finally, Zakharov, who became the leader of the Russian theater for many years. The rich photo and documentary series is supplemented and combined with unique exhibits that will convey both the image of the time and the theater of the Lenin Komsomol, which under Zakharov took off to hold the first position for many years.

And among the rare exhibits is the original bow of the ship from the play “Juno and Avos,” on which more than one generation of artists and spectators grew up. And right there – the script of the cult painting “An Ordinary Miracle”, all scratched out and painted by the Master’s hand.

It remains to add that the marathon in honor of the Master, which started this week (boards with photographs appeared on Tverskoy Boulevard telling about the creative path of the innovative artist) will continue in the halls of ROSIZO and in the Lenkom Theater.
