the season of all dangers

CRITICAL – The hospital series resumes on TF1 this Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Season 5, available in 18 episodes, promises to be that of all dangers, for Shaun Murphy, but not only. Is it worth watching?
Launched in 2017 on ABC, good doctor (in English, The Good Doctor), had the ambition to renew the genre without departing from its function of classic entertainment. The novelty of the series was due to the particularity of its main character, Shaun MurphyFreddie Highmore, a young intern in surgery suffering from an autism spectrum disorder, accompanied by the scientist’s syndrome. Introducing disability into the hospital world, no longer as a debilitating illness but as a strength and a superiority was an excellent idea. And we expected no less from David Shore, to whom we already owed the brilliant Dr House. The rest, like the vast majority of hospital series, weaves together medical cases, the affects of patients and their families, the well-differentiated characters of each member of the team and the daily life of the establishment.
The seasons have between 18 and 20 episodes. A classic but effective treatment and a series that started very well but inexorably runs out of steam over the narrative arches and its developments. Are hospital series all doomed to self-destruct? Obviously not. What testifies Grey’s Anatomy , whose season 20 has just been ordered even though its historical heroine seems to want to take the tangent. Except that the latter, more soapy than hospitable, is an exception to the rule. Dr House ended after 8 seasons. The Residencet did not exceed the cap of 2 bursts. New Amsterdam peaks at 4. Chicago Med may not exceed the 7 mark. Emergency roomthe most cult of them, stopped at 15. And good doctorwhatever its qualities, whatever the efforts made to bring the program to life, will not last as long.
Seventh in the top 50 most watched series in 2017, it has dropped twelve places in the space of four years and audiences are still declining. Season 5, broadcast in the fall of 2021 in the United States, hardly federated more than 4 million viewers. However, she tries everything for everything by introducing a hydra into the routine of the hospital, namely a new director ready to do anything to make the establishment profitable. Will Salen Morrison, played by the theater actress Rachel Bay Jones, be right about the ethics which, in this very particular medical environment, is supposed to prevail over any form of commercial logic? Who knows… His presence, his requirements and his more than questionable methods will at the very least put everyone at bay, starting with the hero, whose necessarily regular framework is shattered. At the risk of calling into question his abilities and his marriage to the sweet Léa.
