The School of Dramatic Art on Sretenka has found a new stage

Olga Sokolova: “We did not get the most economically perfect farm”

The season was opened by the School of Dramatic Art on Sretenka, which at the end of last season was joined by the Center. Meyerhold. During the merger, there was no bloodshed, and at least some logic can be traced in it – the two theaters have a laboratory nature. As a result of the official reorganization, ShDI now has a stage on Sretenka and a stage on Novoslobodskaya. Within a month, a new sign will appear on the former TsIM. How the theater will function now, with which of the CIM residents cooperation will continue, we are talking with the director of the ShDI Olga Sokolova.

– Each new stage has its own halls: on Novoslobodskaya – the Great Hall of Meyerhold, the New Hall on the second floor and the Green Foyer on the fifth. The season on Novoslobodskaya will open with the premiere performance “Mom, I’m a Blogger” directed by Asya Knyazeva. The premiere was shown at the end of the season, and it was well received by the audience.

– And what about the residents, who largely determined the face and repertoire of TsIM?

– There were a lot of residents, but much of this had nothing to do with creativity. At the moment, along with the former ones, six residents will work on Novoslobodskaya – the Vakhtangov workshop, the workshop of Dmitry Brusnikin (they were), and I am very glad that Ivan Popovsky’s opera and drama studio has been added. And one of the next premieres they will show is the opera Aleko by Sergei Rachmaninoff on the eve of the great composer’s birthday. Almost all children’s performances also remain.

– When CIM was attached to the SDI, did you encounter protests, disagreement of its employees?

– At that time, 50 people worked at TsIM, but these were not actors, but the artistic and production part, the administration. To be honest, not everyone made this decision, someone left in protest, someone left, there were curses addressed to me, but it all passed. A total of 40 people from the artistic and production department and the administration joined our team. We got not the most economically perfect economy and not the simplest one. But we’ll manage.

– How will the artistic direction of the stage on Novoslobodskaya be carried out? Will she have her own curator?

– The directing and acting laboratory, as in ShDI, on Sretenka will be led by Igor Yatsko, and in the status of his assistant – Zhenya Todorova.

In general, the plans for the updated SDI are huge. The first premiere of the season will be “Native Songs”. Maybe not the best name, referring to the Soviet past, but the quality is guaranteed by the famous choir of Svetlana Anistratova. For the initiated, this is a team of high musical culture, exquisitely embedded in the theatrical component of the theater.

Judging by the application, ShDI will spend the season under the sign of the classics – Russian, foreign, Soviet: Ernst T.A. Hoffman (“Hoffmann’s Murrkulature”) directed by Ekaterina Granitova, Maxim Gorky (“Vassa Zheleznova. Second Option”) directed by Igor Yatsko. Next will be Leo Tolstoy – “Composition on the topic: Childhood. Adolescence. Youth”. The production is being prepared by the rising Gosha Mnatsakanov. And what about without Pushkin – Ruslan and Lyudmila is next in line, Evgenia Todorova is working on the poem. A sketch of the future performance has already been presented at the art cluster “Tavrida” at the championship of creative competencies “ArtMasters”.

The stage on Novoslobodskaya will open with the premiere of Oleg Malakhov – “Molière. Impromptu, and graduates of the acting course of the Moscow State Pedagogical University will play. And Malakhov is preparing “Tatyana’s Wonderful Dream”, based on the novel by A.S. Pushkin, “Eugene Onegin.” Dmitry Brusnikin’s workshop will show “Holes” based on the play by Lidia Golovanova (shortlist of the Lyubimovka festival) directed by Alexei Martynov.

This scene will retain its experimental status and a place of attraction for young or new names. In the season, Gleb Cherepanov, Mikhail Kolegov, Ekaterina Dubakina, Kristina Zvykova, Vadim Volya, Pavel Kartashev will stage here.
