The Russian travel industry has not received recommendations not to sell tours to Sri Lanka

Tour operators and agents have not received any recommendations to refrain from selling tours to Sri Lanka and Abkhazia. Embassy warnings do not constitute official notification of threats, the Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR) said.
“We draw special attention to the fact that these warnings are not official notifications about the presence of a threat to the safety of life and health of citizens in accordance with 14 Federal Law “On the Fundamentals of Tourism Activities in the Russian Federation.” Tour operators and travel agents have not received any recommendations to refrain from selling tours to Abkhazia or Sri Lanka,” ATOR reported in its Telegram-channel.
February 17 Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka called Russians to return to their homeland due to “increasing incidents” involving compatriots. The embassy spoke about a fight at the Sri Lankan Rainbow Surf Beach Hotel, which occurred on the night of February 15. Three Russians took part in the fight, one of them was in the country on a permanent resident visa. According to the embassy, the cause of the fight was harassment of Russian women and indecent behavior of the staff.
February 16 Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia warned Russians about the risk of visiting Abkhazia due to the early release of Edgar Abukhba, who raped and robbed a Russian tourist in 2019. The department emphasized that they consider “the attitude of the Abkhaz justice towards crimes committed on the territory of the republic to be lenient.”
