The Russian government is working on introducing quotas for the import of foreign seeds to Russia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko said. According to her, appropriate decisions can be made soon.
“As for quotas for the import of foreign seeds, this idea is being worked out, we will most likely see such decisions soon at the government site,” said Victoria Abramchenko “RIA News” within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
Ms. Abramchenko said that the Russian authorities discussed this issue with the Association of European Businesses. “Colleagues were worried about the possibility of closing the Russian market, we explained the rules of the game… The negotiations did not lead to foreigners refusing to work in Russia. We will not be left without seeds,” she said.
Victoria Abramchenko noted that the threshold values of the Food Safety Doctrine in 75% of Russian seeds “should be achieved.” In her opinion, Russian seeds will ensure the food security of the country.
