The Russian government has expanded the list of goods subject to labeling

From April 1, 2024, new categories of goods will be subject to mandatory labeling, including outerwear and sportswear. The corresponding resolution was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, reports “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” with reference to the document.
It obliges to put a special code on manufacturers of outerwear made of faux fur, sports and ski suits, workwear, knitted men’s shirts, men’s suits, jackets, trousers, blouses, shawls, scarves, mufflers, dresses, skirts, men’s and women’s jackets, coats, raincoats , as well as a number of other products.
The consumer will be able to find out about the origin and authenticity of goods using the “Honest Sign” application.
Mandatory labeling of clothing began in Russia on January 1, 2021. The categories subject to labeling are specified in the order of the Russian government and the resolution. Previously, it included coats and short coats, knitted blouses, garments made of genuine leather, bed linen, fur coats and shoes.
The state labeling system started in 2019 with the aim of countering counterfeiting. “Honest Sign” already includes data on dairy products, bottled water, soft drinks, tobacco, beer, shoes, light industrial goods, fur coats, tires, perfumes, cameras, medical products, wheelchairs, antiseptics, dietary supplements and medicines. From September 1, 2024 in Russia they can also begin label animal feed, veterinary drugs, vegetable oil and canned food.
In March 2022, the Food and Beverage Association asked Mishustin to suspend the experiment on labeling their goods, and then cancel it altogether. Among the signatories of the letter: “Rusprodsoyuz”, National Union of Milk Producers, Union of Producers of Juices, Water and Beverages (Soyuznapitki), Oil and Fat Union of Russia, National Meat Association, “Rusbrand”, Union of Alcohol Producers, etc.
