The Republic of Srpska announced the consent of the BiH Council of Ministers to negotiations on a gas pipeline for supplies from the Russian Federation

The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina has agreed to start negotiations on the construction of a gas pipeline for gas supplies from Russia, Dusko Perovic, head of the Republika Srpska (part of BiH) representation in the Russian Federation, said. If in 2012 negotiations on this issue were held at the level of the Russia-Bosnia and Herzegovina intergovernmental commission, now they will be held with Belgrade. BiH is connected to Serbia’s pipeline transit system.
“The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina gave the go-ahead to start the negotiation process,” said Mr. Perovic “RIA News”.
After the approval of the Council of Ministers, it is necessary to obtain the consent of the Presidium of BiH. According to Republika Srpska, two members of the presidium have already announced that they will not support the decision. “In response to this, we have the opportunity to raise this issue within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly, so that through a vote in the Parliamentary Assembly we get the go-ahead for the implementation of the initiative,” added Mr. Perovich.
Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik in September 2022 met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He called the gas negotiations one of the main ones. According to Mr. Dodik, Russia has approved a project to build a gas pipeline from Serbia.
