The reduction in salmon catch led to an increase in prices for pink salmon

The decline in the catch of Pacific salmon led to a twofold increase in prices for pink salmon, follows from the report Bank of Russia. As noted in the document, by the end of August, the volume of the Pacific salmon catch was two times lower than in 2021.
It also follows from the report that in July-August, the volume of seafood supplies to the western regions, including along the Northern Sea Route, and for export to Asia and Africa continued to grow. At the same time, the calculations were made mainly in national currencies.
As of August 31, 2022, the catch of Pacific salmon in the Far East amounted to 227.1 thousand tons, which is 54% lower than the catch in 2021, according to information on the salmon fishing season of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO).
In August, the regional commission of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug decided to terminate the fishing of salmon early on the recommendation of the Pacific Branch VNIRO (TINRO) due to poor filling of spawning grounds.
On September 7, the head of the Federal Agency for Fishery, Ilya Shestakov, said at the Eastern Economic Forum that due to the “not very good, rather low” forecast for fish catches, he allows the export of fish and red caviar to be limited. According to scientists, this year fishermen can catch 322 thousand tons of salmon compared to 539 thousand tons in 2021 and 299.2 thousand tons in 2020.
