The reason for the delay in receiving authorization messages on the remote electronic voting portal was an attempted attack on the servers of the company delivering SMS. This was announced by the co-owner of the Intermobility Group of Companies, Daniil Titarenko. He emphasized that the incident would not affect the voting process in any way.
“Our security services have detected an attempt to attack our system; therefore, in some cases there are delays in the delivery of SMS to participants in electronic voting. Voters will receive an SMS, just with a slight delay, and will be able to vote. We are currently doing everything possible to restore the correct operation of the system,” said Mr. Titarenko TASS.
After online voting began for elections in Moscow, voters began to report difficulties receiving SMS messages for verification. “There is a large flow of people who want to take part, everyone goes to one resource. Within a few hours, the situation will return to normal, approximately by 12:00–14:00,” explained Ilya Massukh, deputy chairman of the Public Headquarters for Observing Elections in the capital.
In 2023, elections in most regions will take place over three days and begin today, September 8. The main voting day will be September 10. Elections of senior officials are planned in 21 constituent entities, as well as additional elections of State Duma deputies in four vacant single-mandate constituencies.
