The Prosecutor General’s Office sent proposals to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on expanding the list of goods for parallel imports, said the head of the department, Igor Krasnov, at a meeting with entrepreneurs in Omsk, transmits TASS.
During the event, the head of the public organization “Opora Rossii” Alexander Kalinin announced the need to improve the mechanism of parallel imports and drew attention to the fact that the list of goods does not contain a number of items necessary for successful business activities in the metallurgical industry and research work.
“We have already informed the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia about them with specific proposals to change the situation, including by streamlining the procedure for compiling the list and the frequency of its updating. Attention was also drawn to the need to expand it, taking into account the needs of the business community,” Krasnov commented.
The parallel import procedure involves the importation of goods into the country without the consent of the manufacturer or copyright holder. Products are delivered to customers not through a distributor, but through alternative methods. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree legalizing the import of goods into Russia through parallel imports at the end of June. In September, Manturov announced that this mechanism had been extended until 2023.
In May, the Ministry of Industry and Trade approved a list of goods for parallel imports. In particular, it included products of electronics manufacturers (Apple, Samsung, Asus, Intel, Sony, etc.), cars (Jaguar, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley), rare earth metals, sports equipment and other goods. Subsequently, it also included the products of a number of cosmetic, perfume and alcohol brands.
Since May, the volume of parallel imports to Russia made up over $17 billion, it is expected that by the end of the year it will reach $20 billion
