Anna Volk, the former technical director of the Golden Mask festival, has headed one of the most famous musical theaters in Russia, the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre. Volk replaced Dovlet Anzarokov as CEO, left theater in May due to disagreements with the regional ministry of culture. The contract with him was terminated at the initiative of the regional Ministry of Culture. After that, chief conductor Migran Aghajanyan announced his departure from the theater as a sign of solidarity. He wrote the application on June 13 after finishing work on the premiere of Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera. However, according to Kommersant, this statement has not yet been formally signed by the theater management. After the resignation of Mr. Anzarokov, Kommersant sources familiar with the Perm theater community called Anna Volk the most likely candidate for the vacant leadership position.
The interlocutor, close to the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, believes that the new head of the institution plans to hold meetings with all departments of the theater in the near future, “in order to understand the situation.” The source believes that the main tasks of the new leader will be preparing for the theater season and repairing the theater.

Anna Volk graduated from the theater department of the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS) with honors in 1999, worked at the Lenkom Theater and at the International Fund of K. S. Stanislavsky. From 2004 to 2012 she worked as head of headquarters and technical director of the Golden Mask festival. From 2012 to 2015, Mrs. Volk directed the Moscow Pushkin Theater, in 2015-2016 she headed the production department of the Tovstonogov Theater (St. Petersburg). In 2016–2022, she headed the Center for Drama and Directing Theater in Moscow. During her work, Anna Volk collaborated with Mark Zakharov, Eymuntas Nyakroshyus, Dmitry Chernyakov, Declan Donnellan, Evgeny Pisarev and other famous theater directors.
Nadezhda Agisheva, project coordinator of the New Collection Foundation, member of the Public Chamber of the Perm Territory, believes that “personnel decisions should be an option for implementing the theater development strategy.”
“I hope that the new leader will explain to the people of Perm the logic of the change of leadership through the publication of his program of action,” Ms. Agisheva added.
According to the director of the Triumph private philharmonic society, Maria Zueva, it is premature to comment on the appointment of Anna Volk. “She is well-known in the Moscow theatrical environment, but for Perm she is a new person. Moreover, she had just headed the Perm Opera. But many hope that the theater will continue to develop, new interesting productions by guest directors will appear, ”shared Maria Zueva.
