The National Payment Card System (NSCP) confirmed that member banks of the unified payment system of Armenia ArCa will stop servicing Mir cards from March 30. NSPK received a corresponding notification from the Armenian payment system. Today, March 19, the majority of Armenian banks refuse to accept Mir cards reported representative of VTB Armenia.

“At the same time, VTB Armenia Bank, which services Mir cards in its infrastructure in full, will continue to operate in the Republic with Russian cards. Transfers are also available using VTB Armenia cards, including cross-border ones. Today, there are 53 VTB branches operating in Armenia, 22 of which are located in Yerevan,” reported “RIA News” in the press service of the NSPK.

On February 23, 2024, NSPK, the operator of the Mir payment system, came under US sanctions. In NSPC notedthat foreign banks themselves decide to accept Mir cards, there are no restrictions on working with foreign partners from the payment system. Mir cards have been serviced in Armenia since 2017.

February 27, Kazakh bank Freedom Finance banned money transfers from Mir cards. In March, the Kazakh Bereke Bank, a former subsidiary of Sber in Kazakhstan, announced the cessation of work with Mir cards.
