The number of loan defaulters in Russia exceeded 21.1 million people in January-September 2023, which is 22% more than in the same period last year. The total amount of debt for the reporting period reached 2.9 trillion rubles. (over the year the growth amounted to 200 billion rubles), they report “News” with reference to data provided by the Federal Bailiff Service.
According to the FSPP, most of the debtors to banks live in Bashkortostan, the Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk territories, as well as in the Moscow and Sverdlovsk regions. The service noted that forced repayment of loans is complicated, in particular, by the low solvency of debtors for taxes, housing and communal services, as well as their overall debt burden.
In August the Central Bank reportedthat the debt burden of Russians has become a record – the total loan portfolio exceeded 30 trillion rubles. The share of so-called bad debts has also increased. According to the FSSP, in the first half of the year the number of defaulters on bank loans reached 17.7 million, which is a quarter more than a year earlier.
