In 2023, Russians began to more often complain to the Bank of Russia about financial institutions for imposing additional services when applying for a loan. However, for the most part, people complain about the impossibility of returning money for an additional service already issued on a loan concluded more than a year ago, the press service of the Central Bank reported “Prime”.
The regulator claims that it has not seen an increase in complaints about the inability to return funds for loan services this year. The Central Bank noted that the most common type of additional loan service is the opportunity to purchase various insurances, a subscription to an online movie theater, the services of a psychologist, astrologer or veterinarian on a subscription basis, legal services, telemedicine consultations, and so on.
The Bank of Russia reminded that the client has a two-week period to refuse additional services imposed by the credit institution (the so-called end-to-end cooling period). In addition, from January 2024 the cooling-off period will be extended to 30 days.
