The musicians of “Kino” showed a new clip: a trumpeter appeared in the group

‘Place to step forward’ was filmed as a rehearsal

Members of the Kino group presented today a new video for the song “A Place to Step Forward.” The clip is designated as the first part of a trilogy, which will include video versions of the group’s other hits. Musicians took part in their recording, whose appearance under the brand name “Kino” will be very unexpected.

“A place to step forward” is one of the biggest hits from the album “A Star Called Sun”. Since the members of the classic Kino line-ups, guitarist Yuri Kasparyan, bass players Igor Tikhomirov and Alexander Titov, as well as guest drummer Oleg Shuntsov and guitarist Dmitry Kezhvatov, presented the new Kino show with the voice of Viktor Tsoi, “A place to step forward ” sounds at every concert. However, in the process of reworking the hits of the legendary band, the musicians began to have ideas about what could be added to the sound familiar to millions.

“In the course of this work, we often understand something new about songs, how they can be made, what to bring. What aesthetics will suit them, what instruments and what parts can be beaten, ”says the son of the Kino leader Alexander Tsoi, who manages all the affairs related to the new round of the team’s activities.

In A Place to Step Forward, the musicians decided to add wind instruments, which is very unusual for the sound of Kino. Nevertheless, for the filming of the video, it was the version with a trumpet solo performed by Roman Parygin that was recorded. Roman’s resume is full of variety and stellar titles. In the informal musical life of St. Petersburg, the young trumpeter began to participate in the nineties and as a result was accepted into the ska group Spitfire, and then became part of Leningrad.

Two years ago, Parygin assembled something like a super-group, where, in addition to him, members of the Bricks, Spleen, Leningrad, Animal Jazz, NOM, Spitfire play. The ensemble (participants are asked to call them that), called “Radar”, plays all at once, making an unobtrusive emphasis on the Eastern European stage of the eighties. Roman Parygin’s touch to the hit “Kino” turned out to be emotional and at the same time unobtrusive. The trumpet part is small, but sufficient for the colors to appear in the song, which many could hardly even imagine.

The clip itself was filmed as a band rehearsal. Five men in black in the loft minimalism of the famous St. Petersburg studio Dobrolet give out a generous portion of polished indie rock. From the old Kino, in fact, only the voice of Tsoi remained. Some time ago, the old films already covered with cracks were entrusted to the care of British craftsmen, who processed the crumbling material in a special oven, “glued” the cracks, transferred Tsoi’s voice to digital media, cleaned it as much as possible from the touch of old studios and eventually made it part of the stadium show. The instrumental parts were played anew, with reverence for the original ones, but with a completely different technological scope.

After the band’s first concerts in the “recorded voice plus live accompaniment” format, many of course had the question of what to do next with such an exciting, but essentially one-time attraction. And now the musicians of “Kino” are trying to give an answer. They are clearly sure that the history of legendary songs is not over yet and they can sound in the most amazing and unexpected way.
