Participants do not argue with the decision to cancel the exhibition, but called the published reason “terrible wording”. They noted that they “learned from the news” about the decision.

According to the organizers of the exhibition, according to the decision of the expert council, only Russian artists participate in the 9th Moscow Biennale – 27 authors. “We were not given a chance. It is especially unfortunate that Moscow will not see the works of artists from Donetsk and Lugansk,” the statement reads. statement commands.

The opening of the exhibition was planned on November 7 in the New Tretyakov Gallery. In addition to the “absolute inconsistency” of the exhibits with the status of the site, the Ministry of Culture reported a number of complaints against the management of the Biennale of Contemporary Art fund from the Tretyakov Gallery. It was about non-fulfillment of contractual obligations, in particular, violation of the deadlines for the installation of the exhibition and failure to submit the necessary documents.

President of the Moscow Biennale Yulia Muzykantskaya in response statedthat the main work on the preparation of the exhibition was completed on November 3. According to her, the organizers needed only one day to complete, but the gallery closed the halls on November 4.

In 2019, a number of artists participating in the 7th Biennale filed claims against Yulia Muzykantskaya due to the lack of fees agreed in advance. The leadership of the Biennale said that there were no grounds for complaints.

The Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art is an international exhibition that has been held in Moscow in odd-numbered years since 2005. The 9th Biennale was not held in 2021.
