The Ministry of Transport has ordered the organization of additional measures at airports to protect against drone attacks, reports RBC with reference to the source. The initiative targets more than 50 civilian airports with the highest risk of potential damage in the event of an attack.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, airports and their transport security services must learn to identify UAV models and methods of possible attacks. They also need to counter the threat of possible explosions. As the source said, the order does not apply to airfields of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The press service of the Ministry of Transport confirmed to RBC information about the order. They clarified that the recommendations were developed jointly with subordinate agencies by mode of transport.
A source in one of the airport holdings said that the order was addressed to transport security units. Another RBC interlocutor noted that currently airport operators have no legal grounds to shoot down drones.
In March, Kommersant wrote that the Ministry of Transport decided to tighten the rules for flying drones and small aircraft. From September 1, when flying in an uncontrolled control zone, deviation from the route by more than 10 km will be considered a violation. The restricted zone for drone flights in airport areas will be expanded to 30 km.
