The Ministry of Finance has developed rules for recognizing jewelers as artists

In order to become a real master, a diploma will not be enough

A document on a specialized or professional education in the field of jewelry design, it seems, will no longer be a sufficient basis for recognizing its owner as a goldsmith. The Russian Ministry of Finance has submitted for public discussion new rules for recognizing citizens as jewelry artists.

As it became known to MK, the Gokhran of Russia will determine the suitability of applicants for the title of artist-jeweler. In order to obtain this status, the applicant must prove that he continues the traditions and develops new areas of jewelry craftsmanship, and also has experience in participating in competitions, exhibitions, reviews, and other cultural events in the jewelry industry.

But the main requirement is the presence of at least three pieces of jewelry that have been tested and branded with the state hallmark, made and processed by a specialist, at least partially by hand. In addition, the document states that all three works must carry the original author’s idea and be distinguished by “a high professional, artistic and technical level of performance and in which the artistic intent is realized.”

To become an artist, a jeweler will have to submit to the Gokhran an application on paper (you can also scan it, but after that you will still need to bring a paper one), a copy of your passport and TIN. A copy of a document confirming specialized or professional education in one or a combination of areas of jewelry design, jewelry art, arts and crafts and folk crafts, artistic processing of metal and other materials, processing of precious stones and other specialties related to the manufacture of jewelry is also required. You will need to attach a photo of all three of your products to the application and documents.
