Kazakhstan is negotiating the possibility of gas transit from Russia to Uzbekistan. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliyev, writes InBusiness.
“Currently, the possibility of transiting Russian gas to Uzbekistan is being discussed, negotiations are underway, in a fairly constructive manner,” he said.
Satkaliyev did not specify the details of the negotiations, including those related to the volume of the proposed transit. According to him, all this “is a subject of negotiations”.
In November 2022, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, announced a proposal to create an alliance between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan “to resolve issues in the gas sector.” According to him, this proposal was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the talks in Moscow. On November 29, Tokayev’s spokesman Ruslan Zheldibay specified that the talk was about the creation of a “tripartite gas union” with the aim of “coordinating actions in the transportation of Russian gas through the territories of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.”
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak then recalled that Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have had “virtually a single gas transportation system” since Soviet times.
