Artem Verkhov, director of the gas industry development department of the Ministry of Energy, said that the department, together with the Russian National Guard, is developing safety measures for oil refineries. According to him, they include the installation of Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun systems at the refinery.

“The issue of security is, of course, being discussed, work is underway. And there is a legislative initiative of our colleagues. As far as I understand, we can always redirect fuel flows if some equipment fails, the main thing is that Russian Railways does not let us down. This is usually what we do,” Mr. Verkhov said during a round table in the Federation Council (quoted from “Interfax”).

Several large Russian refineries have been attacked by drones in recent weeks. On March 12, due to a UAV attack and subsequent fire, oil refining at the LUKOIL refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region was stopped. On March 13, due to a drone attack, work was stopped at the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery in the Rostov region. On March 16, after a drone attack, a fire occurred at the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region. On March 17, a fire occurred at the Slavyansky Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar Territory. Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov redirected the issue of paying compensation to the government for the affected refineries.
