The Ministry of Digital Development predicts the appearance of 5G base stations in megacities in 2026

5G base stations will appear in Russian megacities from 2026, said Minister of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev. The head of the department predicts the start of mass production next year.
“I really hope that in 2025 we will have mass production of 5G base stations, and from 2026 we will begin to actively install them in megacities,” Mr. Shadayev told Russia 24 (quoted from TASS).
In 2023, the average Internet access speed in Russia continued to grow, but the gap with the leading countries has increased. For the first time, the average speed of mobile communications in the regions of the Russian Federation has decreased. The problems stem from the lack of 5G. The authorities expect that the situation will be corrected by the production of domestic telecom equipment. Contracts have been concluded for more than 70 thousand Russian base stations until 2030; their installation is planned to begin at the end of 2024 – beginning of 2025.
