The Ministry of Digital Development is developing a program to support Russian video game developers by publishing their games in China, said Minister Maksut Shadayev. Video game distribution platform VK Play, in turn, expects to attract publishers from Asian markets.
“We are preparing a whole program on how we can stimulate and support the export of Russian games to China. We understand that this can somehow compensate for leaving those markets where we have difficulties,” Mr. Shadayev said at a VK press conference dedicated to the development of the company’s game engine.
VK is “actively working” with third-party video game publishers to publish games on the VK Play site, said VK Play CEO Vasily Maguryan. “Of course, in the current situation, some publishers are not very willing to come to us, but this is not the biggest problem. We look at those markets that were not very actively represented on our site and in Russia in general – Asian markets, in terms of products, ”he answered a question from Kommersant. Representatives of the company did not begin to report which games and publishers they are talking about.
Today, February 15, VK officially announced the start of work on its own game engine, in the development of which it is planned to invest 1 billion rubles. For the first time, Kommersant announced VK’s plans to develop a game engine back in July last year: then the company discussed the prospects for the project with Deputy Minister of Digital Development Maxim Parshin, the cost of the project was estimated at 3 billion rubles.
