The Ministry of Digital Development is developing a bill according to which the Russian government will determine the list of critical information infrastructure (CII) objects and the timing of their transition to domestic software (SW). The draft document has already been agreed upon and will soon be submitted to the State Duma. The newspaper reported Vedomosti with reference to sources in the government and IT companies.
The publication does not provide details of the document. Representatives of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the government did not respond to Vedomosti’s request.
In March 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that prohibited government agencies and state-owned companies from using foreign software. They must switch to Russian products at KII facilities from January 1, 2025. As Vedomosti experts explained, now CII includes government agencies and organizations in the areas of healthcare, science, transport, communications, energy, banking, and the fuel and energy complex, which have critical infrastructure facilities.
Earlier, Kommersant reported that the Russian fuel and energy complex asked the government to reconsider the timing of the transition to Russian IT solutions. According to the estimates of the Ministry of Energy, the transition to domestic air defense threatens with multi-billion losses and energy shortages.
