The Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are discussing a ban on the parallel import of heavy computer equipment from unfriendly countries, which has competitive Russian counterparts, said Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development. According to him, a ban on the import of Samsung and LG mobile devices is being considered. He assures that this measure will not affect the iPhone.
According to Mr. Shadayev, the discussion is still at an early stage. First of all, they want to prohibit the parallel import of servers and data storage systems. The ban is also allowed for the parallel import of smartphones, Samsung and LG mobile devices. “Because there are Chinese counterparts that are in no way inferior,” the minister said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (quoted by RIA Novosti).
Due to a decrease in demand for premium smartphones from Apple and “uncontrolled deliveries” of parallel imports, an oversupply of smartphones has developed on the market, Kommersant was told, noting primarily the iPhone 14 and 13. At the same time, the rest of the smartphone market is growing – in January-May, the total demand increased by 12% with a decrease in Apple equipment by 4%.
Details – in the material “Kommersant” “iPhone stale”.
