The Ministry of Defense has again not allowed the use of drones to cultivate fields in the area of the established temporary sky closure in the south and central part of Russia, sources said RBC. The issue was discussed at a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture in early February. It was attended by representatives of the defense department, the Federal Air Transport Agency, heads of departments of the regional agro-industrial complex and aircraft operators.
Among others, the Krasnodar and Stavropol territories, Astrakhan, Volgograd, Voronezh, Lipetsk and Tambov regions fall into the closed sky zone. These regions, with the exception of the Krasnodar Territory, are participants in an experimental legal regime created to test agricultural drones in the fields.
The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the fact of the meeting. The department only clarified that representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Federal Air Transport Agency “voiced the current rules for issuing permits for aeronautical chemical work.” The Ministry of Agriculture noted that representatives of regional agricultural management bodies and aircraft operators reported their readiness to carry out work in full in 2024. It is stated that the process of processing farmland and harvesting will take place as planned. At the same time, farmers interviewed by RBC pointed to negative consequences for harvesting.
After the start of the military operation, the General Staff of the Russian Federation limited the number of ships that can participate in the chemical treatment of fields. Some An-2 aircraft and Mi-2 helicopters were initially allowed to fly. Later, the Ministry of Defense demanded the mandatory installation of an aviation tracker compatible with ERA-GLONASS on aircraft.
