The Ministry of Agriculture reported that three regions of the Far East – Yakutia, Kamchatka and the Jewish Autonomous Okrug – are poorly supplied with grain seeds. Three regions are in the so-called “red zone” in terms of seed supply.

“For grains, three regions are in the red zone. These are Yakutia, Kamchatka Territory, Jewish Autonomous Region. Keep the situation under control,” said Roman Nekrasov, director of the department of crop production, mechanization, chemicalization and plant protection of the Ministry of Agriculture, at an operational meeting on the preparation and conduct of spring field work in 2024 in Khabarovsk (quote from TASS).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the situation in the Far East is difficult with the sowing of corn, despite the increasing areas for its cultivation. According to him, in the Primorsky Territory the supply of corn is less than 33%, in the Amur Region – 55%, in the Khabarovsk Territory – 63%.

The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture called for attention to work in the field of seed selection in the Far East. “It is very important to change the scale of this work, to move to mass production of selective products. The region and science have a lot to offer in this area,” he added.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Andrei Razin said that a large number of empty lands and a reduction in sown areas were identified as the main problems in the development of agriculture in the Far East. At the same time, the Far Eastern Federal District remains the leader in soybean production.
