Fishing companies operating in the so-called outlying areas will not be able to receive compensation in the amount of 30% of fuel costs this year. This follows from the draft amendments to the program for the development of the fishery complex, it was published by the Ministry of Agriculture on March 20. In the explanatory note, this decision is explained by the lack of funding. The Ministry of Agriculture redirected questions to the Federal Agency for Fishery. There, the rejection of the support measure was confirmed.
This support measure was introduced in June 2021. It was supposed to help increase the production of aquatic biological resources in remote areas by 650,500 tons per year, in money this is equivalent to $855.9 million. In Russia, for comparison, local companies last year caught 4.8 million tons. It was planned to pay compensation for fuel to fishers who fish in the Antarctic, in the open North and South Pacific and Northwest Atlantic, as well as in the exclusive economic zones (EEZs) of African countries (Guinea, Mauritania, Madagascar, Mozambique, Senegal, South Africa), Nicaragua and Ecuador.
