Restrictions on the export of rice from Russia, effective from July 1, 2022, are proposed to be extended until December 31, 2023 inclusive. The corresponding draft government decree prepared Ministry of Agriculture.
“To establish a temporary ban on the export of rice from the date of entry into force of this decree until December 31, 2023,” the document says, which provides for a number of exceptions. For example, the temporary ban does not apply to rice exported to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, or rice exported by individuals for personal use.
Earlier rice export was limited from July 1 to December 31, 2022 inclusive against the backdrop of a spring accident at the Fedorovsky hydroelectric complex in the Krasnodar Territory. According to the estimates of the National Rice Union, then the area of rice fields in the province decreased from 119 thousand to 92 thousand hectares, and the gross harvest of rice decreased by 24%, to 650 thousand tons.
Then the restriction on the export of rice from Russia was extended for the first half of 2023 through June 30 inclusive. Now the restriction is being extended against the backdrop of the state of emergency at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, which affected the cost of food.
