The MEDIA1 group (which unites the MUZ-TV, Yu, Disney TV channels, the outdoor advertising operator Gallery and the Vybiri Radio group of companies) has confirmed that the Disney channel will stop broadcasting from December 14. Instead of the Disney TV channel, the children’s TV channel “Solntse” will be launched, Kommersant was told in the company. His “MEDIA1” will launch in partnership with the company “Mercury Content”, founded by producer Eduard Iloyan. Ruben Hovhannisyan, the former general director of Yu TV channel, was appointed as the channel’s general producer: his duties will include the operational management of the channel. Investments in the launch of the TV channel are not disclosed.
The Russian office of the Disney company began television cable broadcasting of the Disney Channel in Russia in 2010. Media1 owned 80% of the channel, and The Walt Disney Company owned 20%. Disney aired content from both Walt Disney Pictures and other producers, including Russian ones, according to Mediascope data for October, it was the second highest rated children’s TV channel in the country.
