The state-owned Indian gas company GAIL India is negotiating with Gazprom on gas supplies to the country, writes edition of The Economic Times.
According to the newspaper, “Gazprom”, probably suggested that the Indian side buy fuel from its former Gazprom Marketing & Trading Singapore structure and settle future transactions in euros. The company is a subsidiary of Gazprom Germania, which was actually nationalized by the German authorities after Gzaprom withdrew from all the company’s assets.
It is noted that the company, under the terms of a long-term contract, was supposed to supply GAIL with 2.5 million tons or at least 36 batches of LNG during 2022. At the same time, eight planned deliveries have already been missed.
How wrote earlier “Kommersant”, on August 23, the temporary permission to work with GM&T, issued by the Russian government in May, according to which NOVATEK’s Yamal LNG project could supply gas under a long-term contract for 3 million tons per year. When issuing the permit, the Russian authorities counted on maintaining supplies of Indian GAIL, but the new owners of the former Gazprom structure preferred to sell it on the spot market.
