The American company Google (owned by Alphabet holding) can organize the production of its Pixel smartphones in India, writes Bloomberg. The agency noted that the company is acting similarly to Apple, seeking to reduce dependence on China.
The interlocutors of the agency noted that Google initiated negotiations with some Indian companies – manufacturers of equipment. Among them are Lava International, Dixon Technologies and Bharat FIH (a division of the Taiwanese Foxconn Technology Group).
In mid-April Bloomberg wrotethat Apple tripled the production of its iPhones in India in a year, to more than $7 billion in monetary terms. According to the agency, by the end of fiscal 2022-2023, about 7% of the company’s smartphones will be produced in India. The decision to increase production in India is associated with growing tensions between Washington and Beijing, the agency noted.
In addition, the Nikkei Asia magazine, citing a source informedthat Apple is in talks with suppliers to produce MacBook components and modules in Thailand as the company continues to expand its production outside of China.
Last September, The New York Times wrotethat Google and Apple have started moving their mobile device manufacturing from China to other nearby countries. This was also attributed to geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions.
