A workshop for the production of rails and beams may be launched on the territory of the Azovstal plant, Mayor of Mariupol Oleg Morgun said TASS. According to him, after that, a technopark will open on the territory of the enterprise.
Mr. Morgun said that the demining process continues at the plant. He called this site one of the most difficult and time-consuming in the city.
Government of the Donetsk People’s Republic earlier approved infrastructure development project on the territory of the plant. Regional authorities plan to build an industrial park, an industrial technopark, an ecopark and a transport and logistics center there.
Azovstal is a metallurgical plant on the shores of the Sea of Azov. Started working in 1933. Mariupol came under Russian control in 2022 during a military operation in Ukraine. The plant was seriously damaged during the hostilities. President Vladimir Putin congratulated Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on gaining control of Mariupol on April 21, but the territory of Azovstal remained under the control of Ukrainian troops until May 20.
