The new album is not a pig in a poke
The LP singer released her seventh album and, most likely, did not disappoint her fans with any of the twelve songs. Perhaps the only sad thing for local fans of American popstars is that new LP music is now much more difficult to listen to live.
Laura Pergolizzi treats her audience very responsibly and does not starve them. Her last release, called Churches, dates back to 2021, and in modern times we can talk about a very respectable discography update rate. The new album Love Lines can hardly be called a pig in a poke. The tracks Long Goodbye, Love Song, One Like You and Golden have already been released as singles and have largely clarified what the singer had in mind.
Even before the release, the album had a certain secular flair. It was rumored that Laura had been engaged for six years, but she met the release of the Churches album as a single girl, and at the time of writing songs for Love Lines she was going through a breakup, which inevitably affected the new material. Thus, the interested public could try to study the emotional state of the artist from fresh songs.
However, the heartbroken divorcee is quite difficult to hear on the new album. In Long Goodbye there is indeed a slight sadness from parting; emotions are also generously spread throughout other tracks, but they are all about the intention not to remember evil, to keep good memories and to move forward, even if you do not feel entirely confident. Just Christian humility in all the power of its sacrifice…
With music the picture is even more blissful. These songs have a retro feel to them: melodies like these can be found in pop hits of the eighties, some guitar parts refer to holiday romances in Latin rhythm, the orchestra adds chic, but does not overwhelm. And, finally, the voice, the same one that from the very beginning placed the singer on a very special pedestal. LP received a lot of compliments for it and over the years I don’t want to ask for any of them back. On each track, she seems to reach new heights, and does so without obvious pain.
Laura started out as a music writer and has grown to some pretty big clients like Rihanna, Christina Aguilera and even Cher. Attempts to make a solo career initially brought modest results, but with the album Lost On You (2016), the singer began a completely different life. This album and the title track from it made a splash in Russia, providing the LP with first bohemian interest, and then real popular love and very successful tours.
If one of her first performances took place at the Garage gallery of contemporary art, then in a fairly short time the singer’s tour schedule covered distances from Rostov to Vladivostok. Young girls fell in love with her for her mysterious image, successful business matrons heard the mood of Italian pop hits in her songs, and everyone, regardless of age, enjoyed her voice, which seemed cramped even in very large halls.
The new LP songs are also great for concerts, so the singer’s schedule is quite busy. True, now there is neither Rostov, nor Vladivostok, nor Moscow, nor St. Petersburg in it. In the summer, the closest place with posters for the singer was Jurmala, now the LP needs to be caught in America, and next year you can try your luck again in Europe.
