According to the results of January-November, 65% fewer laptops were imported to Russia in pieces than in the same period of 2021, the GS Group calculated. The brands HP, Lenovo, Asus, and Acer, which are familiar to Russians, have retained their leading positions in the market, thanks to parallel imports, too, but their shares have shrunk significantly. But deliveries and sales began to actively increase Huawei, Honor and MSI, as well as newcomers in the face of Tecno, Infinix and Realme. According to experts, in 2023, the currently growing suppliers will continue to strengthen their positions.

Kommersant got acquainted with the data of the GS Group analytical center on the supply of laptops to Russia for 11 months: they decreased by 65% ​​year-on-year, to 2.76 million devices. Leading positions in the market share HP and Lenovo, which have 15% each. At the same time, HP’s share fell by 12 percentage points year-on-year, while Lenovo’s share fell by only two. The share of Acer was 10% (a year earlier 12%), and Asus – 8% (a year earlier 14%). Positions were noticeably strengthened by Huawei, increasing its share from 3% to 14%, and MSI – from 2% to 11%.

In notebook sales, according to MTS, HP also became the leader in units for 11 months, occupying 19% of the market (23% a year earlier). In second place is Asus with 16% (19% last year), the same share belongs to Lenovo. Following are Acer 13% (15% in 2021), Honor – 8% (5% a year earlier), Huawei – 7% (5%), MSI – 6% (3%), Apple’s share was 6% ( eight%).

In terms of money, HP also ranks first (16%), followed by Asus (15%), Lenovo (14%) and Apple (10%). The decrease in the shares of all leading brands for the year amounted to from one to five percentage points. MSI, Huawei and Honor were able to increase their market shares in money terms year-on-year to 9%, 7% and 7%, respectively.

In total, according to MTS, sales of laptops in Russia for 11 months year on year decreased by 17% in units and by 9% in money terms. MTS does not disclose absolute figures. The average price of the device increased by 10%, to 62 thousand rubles.

According to M.Video-Eldorado, 2.8 million laptops were sold in the Russian Federation in less than a year: “More than a third of sales during this period were from Chinese brands, in the third and fourth quarters their share was 40–45%.” The retailer notes that, despite the expansion of the range of devices from China due to the emergence of new manufacturers, the leaders of previous years remain in stock due to parallel import deliveries: “We engrave such devices ourselves with the participation of a specialized partner or offer Cyrillic stickers, we give a guarantee “.

Citilink provides comparable estimates: according to the company, from the beginning of the year to October, more than 2.5 million laptops were sold in Russia. In this network, Asus, HP and Lenovo became the most popular brands in unit and monetary terms: “The top leading brands have remained from last year, but we see that demand for Chinese manufacturers is growing in 2022.”

As for operating systems, Citilink added, more than 45% of all laptops sold this year are models with pre-installed Windows. The rest falls on other operating systems or devices without them.

Last year, market leaders represented by Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo provided about 80% of laptop sales in Russia, but by now their share has decreased to 66%, and by the end of the year it may drop to 60%, says Merlion Distribution Director Tatyana Skokova: “Many Chinese brands have appeared, previously known only to IT specialists, they can take up to 10%.”

In 2023, newcomers to the laptop market, including Tecno, Infinix and Realme, will actively occupy the niches of outgoing brands, the interlocutor of Kommersant believes in the electronics market: “Honor and Huawei also resume marketing activities – they can take a leading position already in the middle 2023″.
