Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the topic of protecting trademarks of Russian companies abroad is well known to Vladimir Putin. This is how he commented on the patent confrontation between the Danish Carlsberg and the Russian Baltika. According to him, the Russian authorities have protected and will protect domestic producers to the end.
“We never comment on official correspondence, internal correspondence. The fact that this topic exists, that this topic has appeared repeatedly, and that the president is well aware of this topic, I can confirm to you. Naturally, domestic producers were protected and will be protected to the end,” Dmitry Peskov said at the press conference.
Newspaper “Vedomosti” reported, citing sources, that Baltika turned to the head of the presidential administration, Anton Vaino, with a request to protect its trademarks abroad. According to the publication, Baltika is asking, through Rospatent, to suspend the registration of licensing agreements on the use of the group’s main brands in the CIS countries.
At the same time, on December 18, the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region left Baltika has the right to use Carlsberg brands.
Carlsberg Group planned to leave the Russian market after the sale of the Russian Baltika. At the end of June, the group found an investor for Baltika, but in the same month, Vladimir Putin signed a decree that transferred the foreigners’ shares in Baltika to the Federal Property Management Agency. After this, Carlsberg terminated all licensing agreements with Baltika. Carlsberg Group CEO Jakob Aarup-Andersen said that Russian authorities stole his business. Currently, the book value of Baltika’s fixed assets is 17 billion rubles.
