The Kremlin about the state of emergency at Nord Stream: we have lost supplies, while the United States has growing profits

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called “predictably stupid and absurd” assumptions about Russia’s involvement in the emergency at Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2. During a press call, a Kremlin spokesman called the state of emergency a “big problem” for Russia. He recalled that both lines of Nord Stream 2 were filled with gas, all systems were ready for pumping, and “this gas is very expensive.” “And half of this gas… has already been scheduled for our internal balance sheets… This gas costs a lot of money. Now this gas is escaping into the air,” Dmitry Peskov explained to Kommersant FM.

According to the press secretary, it is necessary to wait for the results of the investigation of the state of emergency and, in particular, information from the Danes and the Swedes. “They have a lot of monitoring equipment there. And, without being caught in the field of vision of this equipment, no one could, in theory, get close to these pipes, this is very well known to everyone, especially military specialists, ”Mr. Peskov emphasized.

He also commented on the reaction of the United States and Poland to the incidents: “You remember the statements of the US President, which were made in early February, who then promised to get rid of Nord Stream 2. What the President of the United States had in mind, we do not know. We see exactly the same, you know, hysterical euphoric reaction bordering on insanity of the Poles, who thank the United States for this. What this gratitude means, we also do not know. We are seeing huge profits from US LNG suppliers who have multiplied their supplies to the European continent. They are very, very interested in getting these super profits in the future.”

Russia, according to Dmitry Peskov, has lost its gas supply routes to Europe. “Is Europe interested in this, or, in particular, the locomotive of the European economy — Germany? No. They, too, are now in a very, very difficult situation. Not only do they pay a very serious price for their short-sighted decisions – I mean these frantic sanctions, but now they are still in a very, very difficult position from the point of view of the future development of their industry and its profitability and competitiveness, ”— he is convinced.

The presidential press secretary stated that “there are a lot of questions.” He believes that this situation “requires dialogue, prompt interaction of all parties in order to find out as soon as possible what happened, assess the damage, and predict actions to correct this situation.” “So far, of course, we see an absolute deficit of this dialogue,” Mr. Peskov added.

To a clarifying question about who will be involved in the repair of gas pipelines, the Kremlin representative replied: “If I’m not mistaken, we don’t understand what to repair yet. How can we predict repairs if we do not understand what to repair? We don’t understand what happened there.” He claims that Denmark and Sweden “can’t see” what happened there either.
