Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin said that advertising integrations on the social network Instagram (owned by the extremist Meta, which is banned in the Russian Federation) may be banned in Russia. According to him, this issue is now at the discussion stage.

“The issue of banning advertising integrations on Instagram is being discussed. It is especially strange when this company is paid by Russian organizations with state participation, and there are such cases. We will support advertising bans as long as our users are provided with an alternative. Our principle is not to prohibit, but to replace,” told Mr. Gorelkin during a round table in the Parliamentary Newspaper. At the same time, no legislative initiatives have yet been developed to ban advertising on Instagram for Russian companies and bloggers.

According to him, as an alternative to Instagram, the Russian social network Looky, in which “more than a million people have registered in a year,” can be used.

On December 4, Anton Gorelkin, citing clarifications from the FAS and Roskomnadzor, said that users are required to label advertising on Instagram, despite the blocking of the social network in the Russian Federation. Before this, the FAS said that Instagram in Russia is blocked and inaccessible, so there is nothing to control or label there no need.

According to data Mediascope research shows that the Instagram audience in Russia has decreased by almost a quarter over the past year due to the blocking of the social network.

Details are in the Kommersant FM article. “Russians are unfollowing Instagram”.
