The Hermitage commented on the transfer of the tomb of Alexander Nevsky to the Russian Orthodox Church

On May 14, the State Hermitage expressed its official opinion on certain points of the agreement with the Russian Orthodox Church on the transfer of the memorial complex of the tomb of Alexander Nevsky. According to the document, the Russian baroque monument of the 18th century is transferred for free temporary use to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra.
How writes “Fontanka”, the contract was signed by the director of the museum Mikhail Piotrovsky and Metropolitan Varsonofy and approved by the Ministry of Culture and the Patriarch.
The Hermitage said in a statement that cancer is transmitted for a period of 49 years with the possibility of extension. The museum also emphasized that it had repeatedly saved the tomb – from melting down after the revolution, bombing during the Second World War – and maintains the state of the art object with the help of professional restoration and specially created storage conditions. In this regard, the museum requires to ensure proper conditions for the relic, in case of violation of which it reserves the right to terminate the contract unilaterally.
“The regime is incredibly strict, since the monument itself is very fragile,” the statement said. <...> will be carried out only after the Hermitage approves the existence of conditions ensuring its preservation.
The museum said that the main part of the tomb will be transferred by December, the rest – after the completion of the restoration, which has been ongoing since 2011.
