The head of the Russian Ministry of Culture explained the revocation of the distribution certificate of the film “Aita”

Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova said that the revocation of the distribution certificate for the film “Aita” by Yakut director Stepan Burnashev is due to “negative reaction on social networks.” Additionally, in her explanation of the decision, she cited “hundreds of requests from people who saw the film a little differently.”

Lyubimova, however, reported that the ministry held meetings with the creators of the film. “We will continue to work together and try to make such topics more tactful,” she noted during the government hour in the State Duma, responding to a request from deputy Yaroslav Nilov to comment on the revocation of the distribution certificate of the film “Aita.”

In September, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation revoked Aita’s rental certificate; the reason for the revocation of the rental certificate was not specified. Meanwhile, Burnashev’s detective story turned out to be the highest-grossing film in the entire history of Yakut cinema. “Aitu” at the first Russian festival of auteur cinema “Winter” (the jury was headed by Alexey German Jr.) was awarded prizes for best director and best actor.

Earlier it was reported that Roskomnadzor identified “destructive information in the film that contradicts the principles of the unity of the peoples of Russia” and demanded that video services eliminate the violation, after which online cinemas removed “Aita” from their libraries.
