General Director of the operator of Pulkovo Airport, the company “Air Gates of the Northern Capital”, Leonid Sergeev in a conversation with RBC stated the need to improve the procedure for customs inspection of foreigners. According to him, guests need to be “greeted with smiles” so that they have a desire to return to Russia again.
Speaking about citizens of the Middle East, Mr. Sergeev noted their mobility – they go on vacation five to six times a year. “But such guests cannot be stopped and searched in front of their family, with their Eastern mentality, in the manner in which they are searched in our country,” said Leonid Sergeev, noting that for such guests it is necessary to “introduce a different level of service.”
As positive examples, Mr. Sergeev cited work with foreigners during the World Cup and the Olympics in Sochi. “This experience should now become routine. A hospitality system must be introduced at the legislative level, and KPIs must be introduced,” said Leonid Sergeev.
By data Association of Tour Operators (ATOR), in 2023, foreign tourist flows to Russia increased by 2.9 times compared to the previous year. Last year, 580 thousand foreigners indicated tourism as the purpose of their visit to Russia. According to ATOR materials, tourists most often come to Russia from China, Germany, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, the UAE, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
