This was announced by the head of the ministry Maksut Shadayev. According to him, the project is planned to be submitted to the State Duma in the first quarter of 2023.
“We are now preparing a bill similar to the European one, due to the fact that the commission adopted the Digital Markets Act, according to which it was obliged to give the opportunity to install applications not from the App Store, and pay not from the App Store … We will also introduce such a bill now – that this will also be mandatory on the territory of the Russian Federation, ”Mr. Shadayev told reporters (quoted by RIA Novosti).
According to Bloomberg, Apple itself expects to prepare the corresponding changes in 2023. They may be available in an operating system update to iOS 17. The reason for the innovations was the EU requirements, under which technology companies are required to allow the installation of applications from third-party sources from 2024.
