The head of the largest shareholder of the crypto exchange Bithumb committed suicide

Today, December 30, in the morning, the vice president of Vident, the largest shareholder of the South Korean exchange Bithumb, was found dead near his home in Seoul. According to the police, Pak Mo committed suicide. It is reported by the South Korean onlineedition money today.

Vident owns a 34.22% stake in Bithumb Holding, which owns the Bithumb crypto exchange. It is known that Mr. Park was under investigation on suspicion of embezzlement and manipulation of stock prices. However, according to the publication, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office is also considering the version that the responsibility for these crimes was simply shifted to Mr. Park. So, it is known that he, as vice president of Vident, was responsible for accounting for the brother and sister of Mr. Kan, who is called the chairman of the board of directors of Bithumb.

The South Korean publication reports that suspicions about the possible illegal activities of Mr. Kang’s relatives have surfaced recently. According to him, it is likely that they could try to remove suspicion from themselves by blaming their accountant, Mr. Pak, for everything. In addition, another Bithumb employee is being investigated, who, in the same case, is accused of destroying and hiding evidence, in particular investment documentation. Possibly, the publication concludes, these allegations and a massive investigation may be behind Mr. Park’s decision to “make an extreme choice.”
