The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry will offer the French Framatome to expand its participation in the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that he plans to discuss with the management of the French company Framatome the expansion of its participation in the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant. The proposal is related to the possible exit from the project of the German Siemens Energy.
In this regard, Mr. Szijjarto planned a visit to France. He intends to visit the nuclear power plant on the English Channel, which is operated by Framatome.
“First, we will talk with our friend Matthias Kormann, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, about the possibility of a world economic recovery, and then we will have a short flight to Flamanville, where we will discuss with Framatome, one of the world’s leading companies in the nuclear industry, how to increase participation France in investing in Paks-2,” wrote the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry on Facebook (owned by the extremist and banned in the Russian Federation Meta).
Paks NPP is the only NPP operating in Hungary. At the end of 2014, Russia and Hungary signed documents on the construction of new (fifth and sixth) power units with reactor plants under the Russian VVER-1200 project. Russia has allocated a state loan of up to €10 billion to Hungary for the Paks-2 project. According to Rosatom, construction at the facility is scheduled to begin in 2024.
In February, it became known that the German Federal Office for Economics and Export Control (BAFA) did not issue a license to Siemens Energy to supply equipment for the Paks-2 nuclear power plant. On February 14, Peter Szijjarto called the German regulator’s decision an attack on Hungary’s sovereignty, as it undermines the security of the country’s energy supply. The contract for the supply of equipment for the construction of nuclear power plants Siemens Energy shares with Framatome.
