The head of the Federal Air Transport Agency, Alexander Neradko, said that “for well-known reasons” flights to the airports of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR), as well as Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, will not be operated yet. He specified that the Mariupol airport would be the first in terms of restoration.
“As for the new territories, air traffic to airfields in the new territories will not be carried out for known reasons. Priority plans – for the restoration of the Mariupol airport, in the future, and the following airports, the relevant projects for the reconstruction of airports and landing sites in new subjects of the Russian Federation, we have prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Transport, ”he said during a round table in the Federation Council (quoted by TASS).
Since the beginning of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, the Federal Air Transport Agency has officially notified 49 times of the extension of the ban on flights to Anapa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Gelendzhik, Krasnodar, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, as well as Simferopol and Elista. At the end of December Rosaviatsiya stopped publication of such notices. At the same time, the ban on flights was maintained.
The plan for the restoration of Mariupol was developed by the Ministry of Construction and signed head of the DPR Denis Pushilin in August 2022. According to the plan, the city is planned to be restored in three years, that is, by the end of 2025. The target scenario for the development of Mariupol has been developed until 2035.
March 19 Mariupol visited Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin told him about the severe destruction of the Mariupol airport and plans to restore it. “We expect that it will be a full-fledged airport with the ability to fly to all cities of Russia and abroad,” the Deputy Prime Minister said at the time. To a clarifying question from the president about the timing of the reconstruction, Mr. Khusnullin replied that it was planned to be completed in 2025.
